Warranty information: Five-year limited parts warranty and one-year Dependability Promise to replace the unit if the compressor or heat exchanger fails within the first year. If the product is registered within 60 days of purchase, the coverage increases to a 12-year limited parts warranty and a 12-year Dependability Promise. Extended warranties are available through the Contractors’ Preferred Protection Plan.
In addition to the Eve Aqua, Elgato also announced a really cool portable, IP65 water-resistant LED lamp called the Eve Flare that is definitely what summer evening dreams are made of. It’s shaped like a beautiful mystical orb, and its ambient light can be changed in color via a low-energy Bluetooth connection to best suit your desired atmosphere. Plus, it’s totally wireless, and can be used for up to six hours on a single charge. Though I want one of these so, so badly (I know you feel me, fellow suckers for colorful, glowy lights) it’s only available for pre-order in Europe for €99,95. No word yet on whether it’ll be released elsewhere or not.
Thermostat compatibility: Requires a special thermostat. Designed to operate with the Wi-Fi-enabled communicating Hx3 thermostat with consumer and contractor remote access app.
After a ton of delays and a couple of false starts, IKEA announced today on its TRÅDFRI smart lighting app that it is finally rolling out HomeKit support for the TRÅDFRI smart lighting system. According to German Apple-focused news site Macerkopf, users who already own the TRÅDFRI lighting system will need to generate an eight-digit code in the IKEA app in order to manually add their bulbs to the Apple Home app. However, if you get a newer version of the system, there will be a code on the underside of the gateway that you can input. After that, you can use the Home app, Siri, and the TRÅDFRI app to control your lights. You’ll also be able to add them to scenes.
Better scheduling that you can operate also helps. Smart thermostats are far easier to programme, which means you’re more likely to get the best combination of savings and comfort, programming your thermostat for how you use your house.
Special installation requirements: Simplified installation allows for an easy mounting of the indoor air handler, quick connection of the refrigerant lines and electrical connections, and a 3-inch diameter (or less) opening for running the entire line set. This setup is perfect for tight spaces in a pinch or where ductwork cannot be accommodated. No ductwork is required, which means no messy renovation.
The Smart Thermostat is neatly designed too, with a translucent and sturdy plexiglass casing that’s available in a variety of colours. You don’t even have to attach it to a wall either, as the device can run off batteries and easily be carried from room to room. There’s also a demo feature on Netatmo’s website that allows you to view the main features in the thermostat’s app to see if it meets your needs.
Leviton has officially confirmed that its Decora Smart platform is now fully compatible with the Google Assistant ecosystem. The Decora Smart range offers a variety of different solutions for lighting control, including in-wall dimmers, switches and plug-in modules. Using Google Home and Decora Smart, users have access to commands such as: “OK Google, dim the chandelier to 10%.”
Where Nest wins for sure, though, is in ease and accuracy of use. It’s smarter and it knows you better. If it’s all about the pounds per year, you live in a property that’s big enough and you don’t mind a bit of manual scheduling, then Honeywell has what you need. If you want the switch it on and forget about it experience, a home that’s nearly always the right temperature and some not quite as good money-saving thrown in, then Nest is your answers. At least for now….
